eXistenZ
Starring: Jennifer Jason Leigh, Jude Law, Ian Holm, Willem Dafoe and Christopher Eccleston. 96 min, R.
For those of you who would enjoy delving deeper into the mind of David Cronenberg than you did in Crash, than this film is most certainly for you, but for the rest of us with some sort of moral limit to engrossment, I suggest you stay clear. I have a feeling that Mr. Cronenberg enjoys attempting to confuse us, philosophize at us and simply gross us out, however with eXistenZ he only manages to do the latter of the three.
eXistenZ is the biological game created by Allegra Geller (Leigh) that with a pod and a series of wires transports you into an artificial reality that is constantly changing on you. Hmmm...everything that is real is actually fake. Didn't I see this a while ago? Oh yeah, I called it The Matrix.
The supporting cast (Holm, Dafoe and Eccleston) change their identities more than Prince and the fights are some of the most boring film has ever produced. Jude Law as the bodyguard to Allegra and eventual eXistenZ player is the only true, interesting, original character. Some sci-fi fans may enjoys the effects, but for a moviegoer who wants interesting plot or characters stay away. Rating: C
