Election

Starring: Reese Witherspoon, Matthew Broderick, Chris Klein and Jessica Campbell. 104 min, R

We all know the kind of girl Tracy Flick (Witherspoon) is. She's the perky, peppy, "can I take the message to the office for you Mr./Ms.---------" kind of girl and of course the kind of girl who runs for student council. Things look all dandy for Flick, until Mr. McAllistar, (Broderick) as a hilarious teacher, decides he can no longer stand Flick and those like her and sets out to shatter Tracy's hopes of becoming president. One of the best supporting casts of the year includes a good guy footballer, who joins the race near the end (Klein) and his complicated, lesbian sister, played by Campbell.

Election, is one of the best comedies of the year, thus far. Reese Witherspoon shows a range which had been lacking in her previous efforts. Broderick turns in his strongest comedic performance since Ferris Beuller and the supporting is extremely vital and vivid. It is a mature tale of school aged morality. Similar to Rushmore, Election can give you an uneasy feeling, make you think and make you laugh all within a span of a few moments. Rating: A-
